Reports from the Association for Renewable Energy and Clean Technology (REA) suggest 47% of the UK’s electricity stems from renewable energy sources.
Along with this, the report identifies that the sector is valued at £24.38 billion, with estimations suggested that figure will be over £41 billion in 2035.
Furthermore, employment in the renewable energy sector has also seen a rise, now employing over 140,000 people.
The leading growth areas in the sector are solar and biofuel, with job roles in the Northeast and Yorkshire and the Humber seeing the largest growth.
Renewables meet around 15.5% of the energy demand in the UK within sectors such as electricity, transport and heat.
To reach net zero, significant efforts to support renewable energy will ned to be undertaken in the sectors named. Efforts including investing in infrastructure, local initiatives and new policies will contribute to a sustainable future.
