A quarter of new cars sold in November were electric

New figures show that 1 in every 4 new cars sold in November were electric vehicles, with manufacturers setting their sights on meeting the governments ZEV mandate.

November saw over 150,000 new cars registered on the road, with over 38,000 of those being electric powered, with this share being at its highest since December 2022. The current ZEV mandate states that 22% of newly registered vehicles must be electric, with November only being the second month this year to achieve that target.

The 2024 ZEV threshold is set to rise into 2025, with the new mandate stating 28% of vehicles manufacturers sell having to be electric, meaning manufacturers need to increase electric vehicles by 90,000 units.

The recent figures state that the UK is second in the European EV market. In comparison to other fuel methods, petrol is still the most popular choice, with over 70,000 new vehicles registered in November being petrol powered.

Fleet sales is now the most common form of vehicle purchasing in the UK, with around 60% of registrations being fleet.
