Carbon dioxide reduction incentive for farmers

PUBLISHED ON: 21/01/2025

A new carbon dioxide reduction incentive has been made available for farmers in the UK

An application system has been set up to financially incentivise farmers to reduce their carbon dioxide production.

The £1m funding allows farmers to gain £60 per tonne of carbon dioxide reduced each year, with 50% of whatever is earned being paid upfront.

Furthermore, farmers who are below the average emissions will be able to access payments for maintenance costs.

For farmers to reduce their carbon emissions, actions such as investing in renewable energy, better fertiliser management and use of energy efficient equipment can all help farmers meet their targets.

This new scheme does not involve selling carbon credits, with the scheme gaining funds from businesses to pay for farmers to reduce their carbon footprint.

In this instance, the fund has received £1m in financial backing, with business wanting to reduce their emissions contributing to the fund.
